Q:in the event of a full collapse of U-18 Chan, is there any full backup of all the content or will it all be lost to the dark voids of the internet? If there is no full backup: is there any chance of getting a torrent or other form of download of all the content?

We have intermittent backups. There won’t be any sort of torrent or anything like that of it since we have hundreds of thousands of images which are all stored in the same directory. That means they aren’t sorted.

Thoughts About Closing U-18Chan

I haven’t discussed any of this with the other admins, so this is just me putting my own thoughts out there. I don’t know who else but the silent Internet to voice them to.

U-18Chan has been falling appart for a very long time now. The site’s software was never finished, properly inplemented or fixed. As it gets older and older, more and more parts become out of date or just plain fail. I honestly have no idea how much longer it will last.

What about that awesome new software that was being built from the ground up just for us and our needs? Too no big surprise, our coder bailed on us. Again. So that’s not happening. I can’t say I didn’t see it coming, I just hoped for the better.

So now we’re stuck with a site that’s falling appart and full of pawsru shitposters. The only good thing is that adverts are covering server costs and the staff are dedicated.

I’ve said things in the past about never abandoning U-18Chan and keeping the site running so long as there are still visitors. As you can imagine, it took quite a lot to get me to even concider it. I’m just not seeing a lot of options. Even if I had the knowledge to fix the site, it’d be less work to just start from scratch. We probably won’t be able to fix most of our organizational or community issues without new moderator features either. As I see it, things can only get worse.

I’ve thought about just giving the domain and server files away to one of the administrators, but I don’t know how much I like the idea of handing my dying baby to someone else so it can suffer a bit longer. I think Amy would be too much of a dick and cuase a lot of internal drama and bans woth both mods and users. Marker seems to withdraw from most serious conflict, so I don’t think he could stand up to a whole lot of it. To be petfectly honest, they are the only two I’d even concider to replace me. They are the two most involved administrators. I don’t mean offense to either of them with my judgment.

So I feel like I can either keep riding this out until the site buckles, or pick a date to kill it. I’ve always loved the site and always will. There’s been a lot of good and bad memories made, and I’ve felt very pround and fulfilled by it. But it’s becoming less and less of what it was meant to be every day. It seems like every second post is made by some idiot who’s whining or negatively commenting about one thing or another. I know furries online who turn their noses up just at the mention of the site’s name.

I can now officially say, for the first time since U-18Chan came into existance, I am not proud of it. I’m ashamed.

Q:A few months back when there was still a Minecraft board/page/thing, there was a 32x32 texture pack that you had put together linked to on the page. Would you happen to have an updated version of this or a link the the original one?

I haven’t updated it in forever, but I might be able to find the original somewhere. I’ll post it on /v/ when I do.

We had some payment issues with our current host, since I can no longer use Paypal. Luckily we got everything sorted out and the site should be back up soon.

Q:In regard to the development of the new U-18Chan, what features can we expect and what will change?

We have a lot planned, and a good bit already done. Many of the changes will be in how the back end of the software works, and a ton of new options to help moderators out. One core feature will be having a single thread appear on more hen one board. This will help out with organization. Auto taggI ng and optional account registration for more configureation options are also planned.

won’t give too much detail on features yet though, since the new software is not done.  You’ll hear about it when we launch our closed Beta. I promise.
