A Personal Appeal
I’m going to skip the foreplay and get straight to the point. We’re out of money, and servers aren’t free. U-18Chan’s server has been paid for the next month, and then we’re right out of cash. How did we make money before? We didn’t. I personally paid for the server, with a little bit of help from some very rare donations. Recently, I’ve added adverts to U-18Chan in hopes of making the server self sustained. Unfortunately, this isn’t cutting it. So as much as I hate to have to ask, I must. Please, please PLEASE donate! Even if you can’t afford to donate much, anything helps. But if you don’t have any money to donate, you can still help!
Mainly, make an adblocker exception for U-18Chan. We do get money for views, and also for clicks. Please only click if you are interested though, we can get in trouble if you click spam. You can also take our new survey to help us find out what our users want. Alternatively, you could apply to become a staff member. Just email mittens@u18chan.com and explain why it is you think you can help U-18Chan. Programmers are our favourite, but we also have room for artists, moderators, and organizers. U-18Chan is run off volunteers, so we are always hiring.
“Why is the server so expensive?” You may ask, “I have a server right here in my basement that has dual AMD processors and 16GB or RAM *sneer*” Well, neck beard, our server uses an average of 3TB of bandwidth a month, and has spikes as high as 7TB. Not only that, but our host won’t shut us down instantly if they get a DMCA request from a copyright holder. This all adds up in a hurry. Trust me, if we could run the site cheaper we would.
Last time we ran a campaign for donations on U-18Chan, we received over $300.00 in donations. That was pretty awesome. But our userbase has more then doubled since then, so I don’t think it’ll be a problem to raise much more then that. Enough to keep us afloat for a long time. We have many more exiting features and changes coming down the pipe for U-18Chan, including stuff with our new tagging system, once we get all the bugs worked out. Hopefully we’ll stay online so you can all see them.
